Press Release - Saint Monica University Excels at The Higher National Diploma Examination
SMU Higher Institute, Buea, & Institute of Professional Studies, Kumba, Score 100 Percent
Buea, Cameroon – Tuesday, August 1, 2023: Saint Monica University (SMU), an American-style university in Cameroon, today announced that all their students passed the 2023 version of the Higher National Diploma (HND). The results that were released in mid-July 2023, revealed that SMU students had excellent results, with most of them earning “Upper Credit.” Saint Monica University System registered candidates from both of its campuses in the Southwest Region – SMU Higher Institute, Buea, and the Institute of Professional Studies, Kang-Barombi, Kumba.
“We are proud of the results of our students at the 2023 HND examination,” said Dr. Nicholas Asongu Jingwa, President of SMU Higher Institute, Bulu, Buea. “This is the first time that Saint Monica registered students for the HND examination, and scoring a hundred percent is proof of our superior academic programs. My congratulations go to the students as well as the faculty and staff for the excellent results. This is proof that Saint Monica University System is one of the best higher education institutions in the country. We encourage prospective students who want to succeed to consider SMU as their preferred institution of higher learning.”
Although Saint Monica University System has been in existence for 10 years, it had previously concentrated on preparing students directly for bachelor’s and master’s degree programs. Since 2021, the university made the strategic decision to begin offering HND programs and this was the first batch of students to write the examination. This year, the candidates came from the Buea and Kumba campuses, but in 2024, they will include candidates from our newest campus – the African Higher Institute of Technology (AHIT), Yaounde.
The HND is earned in Cameroon through a national examination organized by the Ministry of Higher Education through the National Committee for the Organization of Higher National Diploma (HND) Examinations. The examination is open only to those who have completed the program course work and research projects, after passing the prescribed examinations in an institution of Higher Learning approved by the Ministry of Higher Education. Students can register for the examination at Saint Monica University System campuses in Buea, Kumba or Yaounde as internal or external candidates.
“Apart from offering HND programs, Saint Monica University System offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in over two dozen academic disciplines. All our degrees are issued by the state-owned University of Douala, which is our mentor university, and considered one of the best universities in the country,” said Dr. Henry Ekah-Kunde, Provost of IPS Kumba. “We encourage holders of the HND from any institution to come to any of the Saint Monica University System’s campuses to complete their bachelor’s degrees.”
